Windows 2000 Consultancy (Active Directory)

One of our larger clients, a global supplier of electrical components, recently had various issues regarding extraneous Active Directory entries across their European servers and additional replication issues. Two of BlackRabbit’s consultants had initially installed the system two years ago which consisted of Windows 2000 AD servers and Citrix MetaFrame server farms in four sites in Europe. Microsoft clusters were also deployed to each site to provide resilient Exchange, file store and printing functionality.

Consultation between the BlackRabbit consultants and the customers European System Manager allowed BlackRabbit consultants to quickly identify the problem and plan the resolution.

Software tools identified that replication records were hugely inconsistent. To resolve the issue, each server was demoted from a Domain Controller and then promoted back into the domain. DNS and DHCP were checked for correct configuration. The DC which held the FSMO roles was done last with the FSMO roles being moved to the other DC on the site.

Finally, after the system was left for several hours to allow replication to occur across all DC’s, replication and error logs were checked on each server to check the solution was successful.
